Shaleeta Smith, MPH

Director of Family Health
Summit County Public Health

Shaleeta Smith is the Director, Family Health at Summit County Health Department. She is a graduate of the University of Toledo where she received her Bachelors of Science in Biology and her Master’s in Public Health, Epidemiology. In this role she oversees the strategic advancement and operations of family, infant, senior and minority health initiatives.  Shaleeta is very active in the community and currently serving on the Board of Directors for Athena Akron, Community Support Service and Students with a Goal (SWAG) and is an active member of the Lambda Phi Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Shaleeta's work has not gone unnoticed, she is a recipient of various awards including 2024 Forty under 40 Emerging Legends- Black  Professionals Association Charitable, Foundation 2022 Crain’s Forty under 40, graduate of Leadership Akron’s Signature Program: Class 38, a 2021 Athena Young Professional of the Year, and a 2020 recipient of the Greater Akron Chamber 30 for the future award.

Dr. Brian Bauman, MD

Medical Director, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

Dr. Bauman is the medical director of Summa’s Pulmonary Service Line and the founding medical director of Summa’s Lung Nodule Program.  He is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.  He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Michigan.  He is Board Certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.  He has been at Summa since 2010.

Volunteerism has been an important part of Dr. Bauman’s personal and professional growth.  He attributes his dedication to service to his parents and his Jesuit education instilling in him the motto of “A Man for Others.”  Before entering medical School, he served in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, working as the Social Services Coordinator for the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Yakima, Washington.  Since returning to Akron, he has volunteered as a medical provider in the clinic at Open M and currently serves as an OPEN M board member.   

Dr. Bauman’s clinical interests include the evaluation of lung nodules and comprehensive evaluation and care for lung cancer. Dr. Bauman has worked extensively to develop a seamless process for the coordinated care of patients undergoing evaluation for lung cancer.  He works closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists and various support services to provide this seamless care from diagnosis to treatment.  He works closely with the Department of Radiology to ensure quality and care coordination for patients undergoing lung cancer screening.  Dr. Bauman has specialized interest and skill in advanced bronchoscopy techniques including Endobronchial Ultrasound and Navigational Bronchoscopy for the evaluation of lung nodules and the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer. 

In his role as the Pulmonary Service Line Director as Summa, he seeks to be a servant leader. Dr. Bauman has designed and built multidisciplinary programs which integrate specialized, pulmonary care across the care continuum.  His administrative focus remains on high quality, team-based, patient centered care. 

Rebecca Teagarden, DO, MA

Medical Director, Complex Care Clinic
Chair, Akron City Hospital Ethics Committee, Summa Health

Rebecca Teagarden, DO, MA is a family medicine physician and medical director of Summa Health’s Complex Care Clinic, a high-intensity, team-based primary care practice for patients with high-complexity medical needs including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as those who have a high burden of chronic disease and social determinants of health. Rebecca obtained her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009 and completed her family medicine residency at Summa Health Akron City Hospital in 2012.

 Rebecca serves as Chair of the Summa Health Ethics Committee. She has a master’s degree in bioethics from Case Western Reserve University. 

Kristene Grayem, MSN, APRN, RN BC

Chief Population Health Officer, Akron Children’s Hospital
Executive Director, Akron Children’s Health Collaborative (ACHC)

Kristene Grayem serves as the Chief Population Health Officer for Akron Children’s Hospital (ACH) and the Executive Director for Akron Children’s Health Collaborative (ACHC). Kris promotes partnerships with payers, providers, community organizations, and advocacy groups to improve child health in her dual roles. Kris leads and directs the strategic path of ACHC’s products and services, including developing and implementing capitation agreements and other value-based agreements with Ohio’s Managed Medicaid organizations, collaborating with ACH's payer strategy team.

Her areas of responsibility include:

As the Chief Population Health Officer, Kris is directly accountable for achieving business results in her areas of responsibility across the enterprise and supporting ACH’s strategic goals.

Kris has over thirty years of leadership and practice experience at Akron Children’s Hospital in outpatient and inpatient settings. During her tenure, she has served as a staff nurse, clinical coordinator, nurse manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse practitioner, operations manager, and clinical and operational director.

Kris received her BSN and her MSN from the University of Akron.

OPEN M, Free Clinic of Medina County, & Barberton Free Clinic

John V. Weigand, MD FACEP is a retired Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine. Dr. Weigand has cared for patients in the Akron community for 50 years. Dr. Weigand has served for over 30 years as a volunteer physician in community health clinics at OPEN M, Free Clinic of Medina County, and Barberton Free Clinic.
