OPEN M’s Annual Community Cookout: A Day of Joy and Connection
Last week, OPEN M held its annual community cookout, a wonderful event that brought together over 250 community members for a day of celebration, connection, and joy. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and music as people of all ages gathered to enjoy the festivities.
The event kicked off early with the cheerful assistance of Peninsula United Methodist Church (UMC). Their dedication and enthusiasm set the tone for the day, helping us set up for the event as part of their church's service day. Their bright smiles and willing hands were a perfect start to a day centered on community and support.
A highlight of the cookout was the food! The hot dogs and buns provided and served by the Summit County Prosecutor's Office. Their contribution was greatly appreciated and added a special touch to the event. Thanks to the live music that filled the air, there was spontaneous line dancing and basketball games.
One of the most impactful aspects of the cookout was the presence of 17 community partners, each playing a vital role in spreading knowledge about their programs and services. We are grateful to the following organizations for their participation and support:
Peninsula UMC
Akron Public Schools
League of Women Voters
Delta Omega
Imagine Academy
Aspire and VPL
Macedonia United Methodist Church
Middlebury Academy
Summit County Prosecutor's Office
AMHA
Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities
Street Outreach Services
Truly Reaching You
SummaCare
Empowered Early Learning Academy
Akron Urban League
Akron Athletics
These partners provided valuable information and resources, showcasing the many different programs and organizations that are integral to helping our community thrive.
The day was a beautiful testament to the power of community, showing how we can come together to support and uplift one another. The cookout was not just about food and fun; it was about creating connections and fostering a sense of belonging.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success. Your support and participation are what make our community strong!
