Christmas Distribution Day 2020

On December 15, 2020 gifts, pajamas, school supplies and more as well as approximately 200 lb. food boxes were distributed to 197 families at OPEN M as part of the Christmas for the Love of Children program.

The Christmas program is fully funded by generous donations which determines how many children OPEN M is able to serve. This year, nearly 700 children will wake up on Christmas morning to presents under the tree and food on the table.

Each year, an outside agency selects Akron families and children in need and refers them to OPEN M’s Christmas for the Love of Children program. Information is collected on each child including their age, sizes and wish lists. Sponsors use this information to provide them with approximately $50 worth of gifts in addition to the food, pajamas and school supplies donated by the community.

To ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers and participants, Distribution Day looked much different this year than years past. Rather then having families enter the building, the distribution was held drive-through style. Participants were asked to stay in their cars as volunteers loaded their vehicle. Volunteers and staff were required to wear face coverings and take their temperature upon entry into the building.
