Breaking the Cycle: Feeling Blessed and Loved

OPEN M Health Services patient, Shelley, has been clean and sober for 23 years now, a big accomplishment. In 2015, she came to know OPEN M when the local university closed its community clinic. Here is her story:

“Since then, OPEN M has worked with me through high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, cirrhosis and hepatitis C. I also suffer from an autoimmune disease and have been blessed and fortunate to be seen by one of the top cardiologists in the region who volunteers at OPEN M. He has helped me manage my atrial fibrillation and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

My doctor prays with me and has helped me improve my quality of life. Before coming to OPEN M, I had given up on having a quality of life. I was tired and discouraged.

The medications alone would cost me nearly $1,000 a month, however, at OPEN M I have been able to work with one of their volunteers (he is an attorney) to get discounted prescription drug medications. This enables me to receive free medications and discounted medications at a cost of $150. OPEN M has been a blessing to me. My doctor prays with me, the staff prays with me and my husband and I feel blessed and loved. I know that I would’ve stroked and died had it not been for OPEN M, their Health Services Manager and staff, and my doctor who is an extraordinary man who gives of his time and talents to help people like me. I am now living a full and happy life.”
