Lynne Dougherty is a long-time friend of OPEN M. Since 2015, she has dedicated endless hours to the Health Services department as the Volunteer Dental Clinic Manager and  Medical Clinic volunteer. Lynne has dedicated her time to developing and expanding the dental program as well as the addition of the new Harry and Fran Donovan Dental Clinic, and we are so thankful to have her at OPEN M.

“I enjoy helping patients gain access to free dental care,” said Lynne. “I believe we should give back to the community in some way and OPEN M provides that for me.”

Outside of volunteering at OPEN M, Lynne enjoys spending time with her family, being outside to walk, swim or read a book.

We asked Lynne a few questions about volunteering at OPEN M and here is what she had to say:

Can you tell us about a time that was especially meaningful for you as a volunteer?

Through a generous donation, OPEN M was able to provide dentures for one of our patients who didn't want to smile because he had no teeth. This patient then gained enough confidence to get a job, interact with people, and start eating normal food again.

What have you learned about yourself and/or others through volunteering here?

I'm more thankful for the opportunities in my life and for meeting so many people who are willing to help others.

What has been the biggest surprise about volunteering at OPEN M?

The biggest surprise is how long I've been volunteering here.

If you could encourage someone else to volunteer, what would you say?

Volunteering at OPEN M helps keep you grounded to what is truly important in your life. You also get to meet so many people who are willing to share their time to help others.
